Patrick Mackey, president of Mercury Marine, announced his impending retirement at the recent Miami International Boat Show.

Mackey has been nearly 10-years in the role and described his time with the marine industry heavyweight as “the best years of my working life.”

Mackey was a recent visitor to Australia when he attended the company’s Expo ’07 at the Royal Pines Resort on the Queensland Gold Coast. He impressed all who met him with his product knowledge and friendly attitude.

Asked if he was retiring for health reasons, Mackey laughed and said, “Yes, while it’s excellent. I’m planning on an extremely enjoyable retirement,” he added. Mackey’s retirement takes effect at the end of this month.

On the home front, Martin Gunn, formerly NSW sales manager for MerCruiser, has left the company after 19-years service.

Based in Sydney, Gunn was well known in the industry and travelled widely on MerCruiser’s behalf.

Ken Evans, director of Mercury outboard sales and service, said Gunn’s resignation came as “a surprise.”
“Martin wants to pursue other interests and we wish him well in his future endeavours,” Evans said.
