Phil Murphy, president of the Gold Coast’s Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club, and three of the club’s directors were the guests last week of Bill Barry-Cotter for a tour of the Maritimo production lines at Coomera and Hope Island.
Murphy was joined by club directors Stewart Palmer, Rick Barton and Scott Wheeler as the guests were shown through the two plants.
Craig Jones, production manager at Coomera and Phil Frazer, production manager at Hope Island, proved informative guides.
The men saw various Maritimo models in different stages of production and described their visit as ‘fascinating, educational and informative.”
Barry-Cotter is a major sponsor of the surf club and last year donated a fully-equipped $33,000 surfboat to the club, which was home for 10-years to the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.
The club has named three of its boats ‘Maritimo’ as a “thank you” to the company and will be taking two of them to Perth next month for the National titles.
Gold Coast Mayor and former Olympian Ron Clarke christened the new ‘Maritimo’ boat and said he was delighted that a man of Barry-Cotter’s stature was prepared to show support to the life saving community in such a way.
