Australia’s newest and most anticipated on-water International Boat Show is about to arrive in Melbourne with a big splash! The Show, which will be held at the $10 billion Docklands development from 1 – 3 February 2008, has undergone a major transformation and aims to set a new industry benchmark.

A host of exhibitors have already booked space at the 2008 event, which has been deemed by sponsor City of Melbourne as one of Melbourne’s signature events. The appeal of the Show will be greater than previous years with a three day event full of entertainment for families, boaties, water sport enthusiasts and the general public.

Gordon Howlett, President of the Boating Industry Association of Victoria , comments : ‘This show provides a tremendous opportunity for members of the public to be introduced to the boating lifestyle at the spectacular Docklands venue. Our vision is to grow the show over the next few years into one of the biggest and best shows of this kind in the country.’

The BIA aims to grow the Show over the coming years into an internationally recognised event. This new concept and vision was inspired by the expansion of Melbourne’s Docklands precinct, the increased demand in Victoria for big boats and the outdoor lifestyle that compliments boating.

Phil Shaw, Boat Show Manager of exhibitor Riviera comments : 'We are certain that this year’s Show will provide a strong forum for our Melbourne Dealers to expose our quality product to the large Victorian boating community, to improve the profile of both Riviera and our Dealers to that community and to demonstrate the lifestyle available to people who own a Riviera.'

There will be a huge variety of boats, including some of Australia’s best manufactured, largest and most powerful vessels making up an amazing on water display where patrons will be invited on board to experience the boating dream for themselves! The on land component of the Show will be made up of numerous outdoor marquees, along with trailer boat displays stretching the length of the promenade from NewQuay to Waterfront City.

The latest marine equipment will be on display, along with an abundance of advice and expertise. Interactive water based activities, including sailing a yacht, paddling a canoe or taking a ride on a motorboat will run over the three day event. Street entertainment, children’s activities, food and fashion will also play a major role.

Show goers are invited to feel the adrenaline of the on land Pro Wakeboarding Competition as enthusiasts of this ever growing sport show off their talent. Boats from the forthcoming Australian Offshore Superboat Championships will also be on display with an opportunity to meet the drivers.

The majority of the Show is free to the public. Admission charges apply for the marina exhibits only - Adults $10; Families $20 (2 Adults 3 Children); Under 16s & Pensioner Card Holders $5.
