Challenger Syndicateships, one of the largest boat share companies in the UK, which arranged boat sharing for everything from sailing boats to powerboats to canal boats, ceased trading on January 3, according to Motor Boats Monthly.
The company, started 10 years ago by husband and wife team Ed and Gill Rimmer, had built up an impressive fleet of shared ownership boats, including 27 narrowboats and top of the range motorboats like a Broom 50, Princess 56 and Sunseeker Manhattan 56 in the Mediterranean.
At the time of writing, it is understood receivers have been called in, but that ownership of the individual boats should remain with the 12 members of each syndicate.

Mr Rimmer, a well-known industry figure, was on the board of National Boat Shows (NBS), and his company was a member of the British Marine Federation (BMF). Information from Companies House shows the company as still trading, but with accounts three months' overdue.
A statement released today by the BMF reads as follows: 'The British Marine Federation (BMF) and National Boat Shows (NBS) are saddened to hear that Challenger Syndicateships is formally going into administration.
'As a result Challenger Syndicateships is unfortunately no longer a BMF member and will not now be exhibiting at the forthcoming Collins Stewart London Boat Show. Ed Rimmer, managing director, has also stepped down from the National Boat Shows Board.
'BMF and NBS would like to take this opportunity to thank Ed for all of his efforts, both during his time on the board and in creating a new dedicated exhibition area for inland craft outside on the Marina at the 2008 Collins Stewart London Boat Show.'
No one at Challenger was available for comment for this piece.
