IMCA Call for papers for 2008 conference

A call for papers has been published by the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) for its 16th annual seminar. With the theme 'Global alignment in marine operations' the seminar will be held 5-6 November 2008 at the Hotel Nikko in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

'Our theme covers the need for common approaches worldwide in marine construction covering operations, equipment and personnel,' explains IMCA's technical director Jane Bugler. 'We are eager to receive abstracts from members and non-members alike from all over the world by mid-February.

'The 2007 seminar, held in November in Paris, attracted over 350 delegates from 25 countries and 16 exhibiting companies,' she added. 'Our delegates included offshore and onshore management and operational staff, together with suppliers of specialist equipment, specialist consultants, oil company representatives and regulators. We are expecting a similar wide range of participants in Kuala Lumpur in November 2008.'

Abstracts of about 250 words should be sent to events@imca-int.com by 15 February 2008.

Being hosted by IMCA's rapidly growing Asia-Pacific Section, the annual seminar is returning to the region having been held in Singapore in 2004. Other cities that have hosted the seminar include Aberdeen, Abu Dhabi, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Houston, London, Paris, Noordwijk aan Zee, Rio de Janeiro and Stavanger.

All four technical divisions (Diving, Marine, Offshore Survey and Remote Systems & ROV) combine to organise the event with its mix of formal presentations - including plenary sessions and three separate streams on marine, diving and ROV and offshore survey - and workshops, informal receptions and dinners, as well as an associated exhibition involving members of IMCA.

A report on the 2007 seminar appears on the IMCA website at www.imca-int.com/divisions/marine/publications/188.html; and the full proceedings, including the presentations and with reports on the discussions, are available on a CD that has already been issued to delegates and other IMCA members. Further copies are available from IMCA at £10 for members and £60 for non-members.
