Gold Coast-based Superior Jetties has won a $5 million tender to transform the Townsville Motor Boat and Yacht Club into a state-of-the-art facility. Located on Palmer Street, the trendy ‘eat street’ of the tropical city’s rapidly developing waterfront, the new marina will offer 152 wet berths.

Superior Jetties won the contract, which had been put to tender by the Townsville Motor Boat and Yacht Club Limited in 2006.

John Hogan, Superior Jetties’ managing director, said winning the contract heralded an exciting time for the expanding company. “We are extremely proud and excited to be selected to build this signature project, which will result in a world class facility for the club,” he said.

Superior Jetties TM Elite Concrete marina system will be employed for the project, which will include full service berths and a cutting-edge security system.

Murray Whitehead, Commodore of the Townsville club, said all were “thrilled” that the marina was finally under contract. “It’s taken extensive work by the club to coordinate with all of the stakeholders, especially the key stakeholder, the Townsville Port Authority,” he explained. “All involved are excited now that the project is finally going ahead.”

The new marina is in Ross Creek and is central to the North Queensland’s city’s central business district.

The old marina will be demolished before work starts on the new facility.
