Triple triumph for marine industry

The marine industry has excelled at the recent Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards presented last week.

Announced on Saturday, November 24, the awards recognise Gold Coast-based companies that not only excel in their specific industry, but set the standard for others to aspire to.

The three marine groups to claim gold were the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, the Gold Coast City Marina and Telwater, manufacturer of the Quintrex and Stacer boat range.

Telwater was named Manufacturing and Construction Business of the Year.

The company’s customer service and export manager, Claire Williams, described the award as “a wonderful acknowledgement of the Telwater success.”

“We are ecstatic with the win as it recognises Telwater as a leader in business on the Gold Coast,” she said.
“When Telwater began operations more than 20-years ago, we were producing less than 1000 boats annually.
“We have since grown into a dominant force operating from a state-of-the-art facility building in excess of 15,000 boats a year.

“Telwater supplies a 125-strong dealer network Australia-wide with premium boats and products and exports to 22 countries,” she added.

Recognised as Australia’s largest aluminium boat manufacturer, Telwater is based at Coomera, within the huge Gold Coast Marine Precinct.

Close neighbour, the Gold Coast City Marina, was a clear-cut winner in the important Environmental Management Award.

The huge roof area of the 100-metre by 40-metre dry stack facility has been harnessed to capture rainwater following the installation of a Synofic System and three 37,000-litre storage tanks.

Stored water is pumped on demand to outlets that service outside work areas where boat owners carry out cleaning and maintenance on their vessels.

The project cost the marina more than $80,000.

For the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, winning the Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation Award made it four in a row for the ever-expanding show.

Regularly attracting in excess of 40,000 visitors, a large percentage from interstate, the show has cemented itself as one of the Gold Coast’s major tourist drawcards.

Marine Queensland general manager, Barry Hibberd, said the recognition of the three in the prestigious awards came as no surprise.

“Each has made a major contribution to the marine industry in Queensland and I’m sure all Marine Queensland members will join with me in offering sincere congratulations to them all,” he said.
