AIMEX elects new board for 2008

The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) elected a new Board at the annual general meeting on November 23.

Ronstan managing director Alistair Murray was elected President while Sean Griffin (GME) remains Vice-President and Stephen Vincent (Austral Propeller) retains his role as Treasurer.

Richard Chapman (Coursemaster Autopilots and HyDrive Engineering) stepped down from the role of President after four years and remains a Board member.

The current Board offers decades of experience within the global marine sector.

Mr Murray has been with Ronstan for 32 years and has been responsible for international business since 1980. The company has won Federal and State export awards and is the 2007 Australian Marine Industries Federation (AMIF) Exporter of the Year.

Mr Murray praised the outgoing President’s contribution which has confirmed the peak industry body’s status in the international marketplace.

'Richard Chapman managed AIMEX through a transition of management and consolidated its position to now represent more than 100 leading marine exporters,' he said.

Mr Murray, a past-President from 2001-2003, said the current Board offered a broad cross-section of the Australian industry with executives from boat manufacturing, material suppliers, services and innovative technology companies.

Board members include Alan Steber (Stebercraft), Richard Ward (Seawind Catamarans), Barry Jenkins (Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show), Steve Taylor (Nuplex Structural Resins), Brian Gagen (Poly Flex Group), Alex Johnston (Muir Windlasses) and Brett Maddern (Marina Protection Systems).

Two representatives with Government Observer Status include a representative from the Aerospace and Marine Industries Section of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources (DITR) and Austrade’s Marine Industry Network Team Leader Leigh Wilmott.

Mary Anne Edwards is the CEO of AIMEX.

Mr Murray said he wanted to focus on offering real value to members during his tenure through ongoing trade missions, inward buyer missions, press meetings and participation in conferences and significant international marine shows and events.

AIMEX is a non-profit, private sector marine organisation with members from the recreational and commercial boating industry. Membership offers numerous benefits to current or intending exporters including networking opportunities, international promotion, government export support and information on industry issues.
