Sail-World.com : Summer holidays and fishing trips with Whitworths

Summer holidays and fishing trips with Whitworths

All over the country people are sitting at their desks dreaming of summer holidays and fishing trips. The reality of such trips fades into the background of memory (‘where’s the bottle opener?’ ‘who forgot to put the bung in?’ and ‘we’ve run out of insect repellent’) and only the good memories remain (monster fish that got away, glorious blue skies and the incredible sense of renewal that comes from being on the water.) Whitworths summer catalogue comes out soon and it contains everything you need to make this year’s summer fishing trip a perfect memory.

‘Our catalogue will come out in about the second week of November’ said Whitworths Marketing Manager Brendan Strahan.

‘That’s our summer catalogue which will take us all the way through to March. It will include a number of specials which will really capture peoples’ interest because they’re such good value. There’s a full range from clothing and boat shoes, to watertoys and electronics; there is always something from all our categories in the specials.’

Brendan mentioned that the Magma BBQs are one item that has been heavily discounted.

‘There’s some good deals with Magma BBQs. We’ve got a new range of Magma BBQs and some of the older styles have been replaced and they’re going out very, very cheap.’

Customers can request a hard copy of the catalogue sent to their address by visiting the Whitworths website http://www.whitworths.com.au

‘You can order a catalogue online, you can download a complete PDF, you can download pages or you can view the catalogue online. Some people like to be able to look at it on screen; some people like to get a copy so they can read it in bed.’

Brendan joked that they had even received feedback from a customer who said that he liked the hard copy catalogue because he reads it in the toilet!

While you’re online you can browse Whitworths extensive mail order stock and perhaps consider purchasing one of their popular gift certificates for a friend or family member. A tried and true favourite, a gift certificate is the perfect Christmas gift when you don’t know what the person wants.

‘The best present is the Whitworth's gift certificate because they can come into the shop and choose whatever they like.’

‘We’ve got a lot of little things that make camping or fishing trips more comfortable. Like a stainless steel fold up toaster: we’ve got about three different types in stock. There’s one that is non folding which actually does do better toast, but I’m getting into the nitty gritty there….’

‘Things like cup holders and 12V hairdryers are always very popular. Fishing knives, stainless steel tools and multi tools: we’ve always got some of those at really great prices and they’re great for fishing trips and the summer holidays.’

If you’re going to spend the Christmas break working on your boat then Whitworths is bound to have the products you need to complete the job. They offer a wide range of deck and hull hardware, pumps and plumbing equipment, paints, fibreglass and rigging.

If you’re not conducting a major overhaul but want to update your boat’s navigation gear and electronics then their website is certainly worth a look. All the major brands are represented and Whitworths has some of the latest products at very reasonable prices. Why traipse all over town when you can compare prices with just a few mouse clicks?

Strahan commented that in the lead up to Christmas sales of safety equipment tended to increase as people prepare to take their friends and families out on the water. There are MOB systems, flares, PFDs, gas detectors and first aid kits. There are even essential tools such as wire and bolt cutters that a good skipper should always carry onboard a sailing vessel but which often get overlooked (we hope you never have to use them but they may be of assistance during a dismasting.)

The Whitworths website is constantly updated with specials and clearance items. At the moment they have knocked $15 off the cost of an oscillating cabin fan 12V: now just $24.95 - perfect for keeping cool on those hot summer days. You can also keep your drinks handy with some half price folding drink holders: at just $3.95. Blow-dry your hair onboard with a 12V compact hair dryer: half price at $9.95.

For the fisherman there are some great half-price specials: stainless steel fishing multi tool with pouch (just $12.40) and fishing knife (only $9.90). Treat yourself with Gill 'Classic Black' Polarized sunglasses at $25 off: now just $49.90! It’s the little details that make all the difference to a good day on the water.

Bargain hunters will appreciate the ‘clearance items’ section of the website. Here you can find limited numbers of stock at truly crazy prices. A search today showed a Humminbird 931C fishfinder reduced from the RRP of $2,499 to just $1499: that’s a saving of over $1000! The unit features ultra wide colour screen and a dual frequency transducer. It would make a great Christmas present for the serious fishermen.

The company has 14 supermarket style stores nationwide; with five stores in NSW and Queensland, two in WA, and one in Victoria and SA.

Visit Whitworth's website to find a store nearest you and to check out their mail order stock. http://www.whitworths.com.au
