The Goodwill Cup Power Boat Log Event was held on Saturday 10th November regardless of the concerning weather forecast.
Nineteen boats represented Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron and sixteen boats represented Southport Yacht Club over two divisions.
South of Horseshoe Bay and the leg down through the Pelican Banks proved to be quite a challenge with competitors' skills additionally tested by the Officer of the Day's restriction on all boats, in each division, to a maximum of eight knots in the last three legs.
As a result of the weather and the ingenuity of the course layout the scores were quite high with a couple of notable exceptions.
The overall results were very close but still good enough for Vice Commodore Power Ian Hall to bring the Goodwill Trophy back to SYC for another year. Div 1 Results:
1st - Ian Short Seaquin with 113.9 Total Points
2nd - RQYS Past Commodore John Miall Nereid with 120.9 Total Points
3rd - Craig Fielding South Passage with 123.6 Total Points Div 2 Results:
1st - SYC Past Commodore Tony Goldner Cutty Sark VIII with 73.4 Total Points
2nd - SYC Past Chairman David McLean Ulysses III with 105.7 Total Points
3rd - Peter White Doromee with 111.4 Total Points
Southport Yacht Club must pay tribute to the brave check-point people who stayed and received a buffeting throughout the event and Southport Yacht Club members would also like to thank Gary Maycock, RQYS Canaipa General Manager for his warmth, friendship and hospitality.
