Hunter River exclusive use granted for rowing regatta

An exclusive use aquatic licence has been granted by Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) for the safe staging of a rowing regatta on the Hunter River this weekend.

Maritime Hunter/ Inland Regional Manager Sonia McKay said boaters should keep clear of the Hunter River next to the Endeavour Rowing Club complex at Berry Park from 7.30am to 5pm on both days.

'This area will be used exclusively for the safe staging of a rowing regatta organised by the Endeavour Rowing Club,' Ms. McKay said.

'The area will be marked with course buoys.

'A no wash transit channel will be established for boats not participating in the regatta to use under the direction of control vessels.

'For safety reasons, skippers should avoid this area as it will be restricted for the event.'

Ms. McKay said vessels would not be permitted to enter the exclusive use area unless authorised by a boating safety officer or a police officer.
