OK, Sit up and pay attention, THIS is a life exam subject and when you reach the Pearly Gates, your results today will count towards your final destination...

Here we go... Environment 101 - Every sailor knows that there are large ocean gyres with millions of tonnes of plastic in the Pacific, the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic, all a long way away from us.

Most of us will never see them and someone else is going to have to do something about them, one day.

But what can you do about plastic and other rubbish in the sea around you?

Right now YOU can easily make a difference to marine environment and your action when you've finished reading this article will be critically important.

We all spend a lot of time at marinas getting on and off boats, there are corners (micro-gyres almost) in every one of them where the on water rubbish collects, a nasty mixture of mainly plastic flotsam and as we walk along we think, someone should clean that up. The Marinas try but lots of material escapes their daily or weekly clean-up efforts.

More needs to be done but who can do it?

Well now YOU can... with just a few key strokes .... the marine environment deserves your effort, because you can help clean up the ocean one marina at a time.

Two young Australian surfers/sailors have designed and built a very clever automated marina rubbish bin that collects floating rubbish, debris and oil 24x7, they are calling it the Seabin.

To bring the Seabin system into production, they need kick-starting fund pledges NOW and you can make a difference today, not just by pledging funds via Indiegogo but by making sure every sailor and marina operator you know is telling every sailors and marina operator they know, that they too can make a difference.

Marina Operators can actually place an order pledge for one or more Seabins via the Indigogo site and the Seabin guys have cut a special deal for these early adopters.

What do you have to do now? On send this article link to every Marina operator you know, to every sailing and boating club you know, to every sailor and boater you know.

Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski – Founders of the Seabin project say ‘the Seabin is a revolution in ocean cleaning technology. It will help create cleaner oceans with healthier marine life. The Seabin project is helping create a better way of life for everyone and every living thing.

‘Marinas and yacht clubs are the perfect place to start helping clean our oceans. There are no huge open ocean swells or storms inside the marinas, it’s a relatively controlled environment. The wind and currents are constantly moving the floating debris around in our oceans and in every port, marina or yacht club there is always some polluted heavy areas based on the predominant wind and current directions.

‘By working with these marinas, ports and yacht clubs we can locate the Seabin in the perfect place and mother nature brings us the rubbish to catch it. Sure we can’t catch everything right now but it’s a really positive start.’

This is a big clean up mission, but it can be done and they are doing it right now and you can help.

So please go to this link to discover more about the Seabin project, pledge if you can and spread the word.

And then on send this Sail-World newsletter article to all your sailing mates and ask them to spread the word.
