The gates closed on the eighth annual Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show at Mystery Creek Events Centre today with 9,811 visitors over the three day event.

A joint venture between the NZ Marine Industry Association and Mystery Creek Events Centre; the Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show is designed to showcase the marine and leisure industry. The only marine event of its kind in the Waikato, the show provides an opportunity for potential buyers to compare brands and models, meet their region’s merchants and check out the industry’s latest developments.

Organisers set realistic visitor traffic expectations and were satisfied with the weekend’s turnout. Last month’s Tauranga Boat and Leisure Show, held every two years, attracted 7,000 over three days.

In contrast, the 2009 Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show experienced crowds of nearly 13,000; being the only marine event for the Bay of Plenty and Waikato.

The build up to the Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show surpassed prior years with businesses snapping up sites earlier than before. The marine marketplace is a competitive environment; therefore exhibitors put an enormous effort into their displays to attract public interest, furnishing exhibitions with an impressive range of marine craft and equipment.

Exhibitors are all too familiar with the economic challenges facing consumers, so although they welcome a lift in sales, it isn’t their sole objective at the show.

Building relationships and getting their brand in front of the show’s captive audience is fundamental. The Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show 2010 campaign focussed on attracting staunch boat and fishing enthusiasts that would deliver value to exhibitors.

The Exhibitor Survey, where businesses are asked to share their sales objectives and results from the show, will reveal whether the approach was effective; responses will be collated over the next few weeks.

The 2011 Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show will be held Friday 14 to Sunday 16 October at Mystery Creek Events Centre, Hamilton.
