Rio de Janeiro is the spectacular setting for the first Grand Prix of the 2010 UIM-WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, with the International Offshore Team Association (IOTA), the organiser and worldwide television and commercial rights holder, confirming a seven-venue, 14-race calendar.

Announcing the calendar at today's press conference at the 41st International Boat Show, Boot 2010 Duesseldorf, IOTA General Secretary, Marco Sala, confirmed that the Brazilian Grand Prix will take place at Marina da Gloria, Guanabara Bay, one of the most prestigious resorts in Rio de Janeiro, on 26-28 March, and that Uddevalla in Sweden, is confirmed as a second new venue for the Championship. 'The continued and growing interest from countries and marketing partners from around the world who want to become involved in the World's premiere Powerboat Championship demonstrates the commercial value of a Championship that delivers value for investment, a strong marketing platform and comprehensive worldwide media exposure.'

IOTA also confirmed that five of last season's venues, Arendal-Norway, Constanta-Romania, Stresa-Italy and the U.A.E. Emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai will continue to host a round of the Class 1 World Championship, and that it hopes to confirm one more new venue, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in the coming weeks.

Confirmation that Brazil will stage the season-opener in 2010, hosting its first Grand Prix of the modern era, heralds the start of a long-term agreement between IOTA and Event Promoter, Eike Batista, President, EBX Group, and fulfils his ambition to bring top-flight powerboat racing to Brazil. 'I have always wanted to bring to Brazil the most modern and technologically advanced series in the world of powerboat racing. I am very happy and excited that for the first time, our country will host a round of the prestigious Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.'
