PredictWind: Lighter winds for Day 3 of Skandia Sail for Gold

'Courses 2010 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta'    .

PredictWind.com is forecasting a lighter breezes for the third day of racing on the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta, being sailed at the 2012 Olympic venue.

Just under 1,000 sailors representing 57 nations are competing in 10 classes in the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta when it gets underway off Weymouth UK, today.

According to PredictWind they will enjoy much lighter winds than yesterday's breezes of up to 25 kts. The direction will generally be parallel with the coast, or maybe offshore.

Breezes are expected to lighten off around the middle of the day, before settling down from a westerly direction and building to 10-15kts.

Waves are expected to be a little higher than the windstrength would warrant, but will ease back during the day and will have a length of 5 secs between peak, they will also be in the same direction as the wind.

The charts below are relatively self-explanatory showing a morning breeze of between 5-10 kts from the west, then becoming 'swirly' around lunchtime and losing most of their strength.

Around 1400hrs the breeze settles down and reverts to its morning strength and direction before building further later in the day.
