Powerboat P1 Galway Grand Prix – Power excited by thrill of chase

Powerboat P1 Superstock Championship
Powerboat P1 Galway Grand Prix of the Sea is being raced this weekend and one man hoping to be at the forefront of the Irish bank holiday celebrations is the country’s sole SuperStock Championship pilot, Alan Power, who is taking part in the event.

The Dublin-based catamaran boat builder is racing for the Green Machine team alongside motorsports engineer Andy Wilby, and Power is hoping that their combined adrenaline-fuelled knowledge will stand them in good stead for the three days of high octane action.

Power is making his first-ever appearance in the SuperStock Championship in Galway and the 30-year-old can’t wait to get to grips with the 'most thrilling powerboat racing series' in Europe. He said: 'The excitement of powerboat racing is unrivalled. When you’re accelerating into turns at 60 mph and competing with the unpredictable conditions and five other teams, it’s a fantastic buzz.'

Having been used to racing catamarans in recent years, Power is extremely excited to make his bow in the single manufactured monohull discipline in the SuperStock Championship 150 Class. 'It’s going to be a massive challenge but a very exciting one. The best thing about racing in Powerboat P1 is its level-playing field as all of the other boats run on the same engine. It places the emphasis on the pilot’s skill and nerve so it’s a fantastic opportunity to measure myself against the best in the business.'

Round two of the Powerboat P1 SuperStock Championship begins at the Galway Grand Prix of the Sea on 5-7 June 2010.
