Sail-World.com : P750 National Championship Final preview
P750 National Championship Final preview

'P750'    Irish Sailing Association
The Irish P750 powerboat racing fleet will hit the beach at Tramore, Co. Waterford on Saturday and Sunday the 27th-28th of October in the final race of their highly competitive 2012 season. Tramore will burst into life for the October bank holiday weekend as powerboat racers from around the country meet there to go head to head in the final race of the 2012 racing season.

Racing a surf course just metres from the shore spectators will get the chance to see (and hear!) these boats up close as they battle their way around the course in the deciding race for the National Championship.

These two days of intense racing are set to be exciting and put on a great show for anyone watching. If you’ve never seen these boats in action before, this is the perfect opportunity to see them at their finest as they reach speeds of up to 80km/h and jump up to five metres into the air!

P750’s are four metre inflatable racing boats that are extremely light (150kgs including engine) meaning they can reach high speeds, get huge air and pull up to 3G in turns. They are raced by a crew of two, a pilot who drives from the back using a tiller to steer the engine and a co-pilot who uses their weight to balance and trim the boat as they tackle breaking waves and tight turns in an effort to keep the boat the right way up.

If you’d like to find out more, check out the Thundercat Racing website or come down to Tramore for the racing and get talking to the guys and girls involved.
