P1 SuperStock Championship 2010 round three - Pwllheli, Wales.

The UK’s premier powerboat racing series returns to its popular Welsh home in Pwllheli this weekend as twelve of Britain’s fastest offshore racing teams power into town for round three of the 2010 P1 SuperStock Championship.

Following the deafening success of the recent Wakestock festival, the arrival of the P1 SuperStock road-show ensures eyes will be glued to the exquisite Lleyn Peninsula for back-to-back weekends.

Swapping six-string guitars and 5ft wakeboards for V6 engines and 30 ft powerboats, locals and holidaymakers will be treated to an action-packed two-day festival of speed.

Beginning at 10:30 AM on Saturday morning, spectators can enjoy six enthralling races over the weekend with the gripping entertainment closing at 16:30 on Sunday after the podium celebrations.

Local interest will focus on 23-year-old adrenaline-junkie, Andy Musgrave, who hopes to propel his Mr. Daydream craft onto the podium in the 150 Class. Among those aiming to spoil Musgrave’s party, Team Fox pilot Martin Colligan is confident of a successful performance at the Pwllheli Grand Prix of the Sea.

'I’m looking forward to coming back to Pwllheli,' said Colligan. 'After two podiums at the start of the season, I’m confident we can go one better and stand on top spot come Sunday afternoon.

'It’s great to see Andy Musgrave and Chris Smith back in Mr. Daydream this weekend. Everyone wants to beat the local team, especially if there is a big crowd watching from the beaches in Pwllheli.'

Following two hugely successful opening events, in Penzance and Galway, to kick-off this season’s championship, the P1 SuperStock teams have had a month off to prepare for the challenging Lleyn Peninsula racecourse.

Stuart Cureton of 300 Class speedsters Team Shark says he is raring to go and has promised locals that they will be in for an incredible spectacle this weekend. He said: 'It’s brilliant to be racing in July this year. It is the height of the tourist season in north Wales and all of the hotels have been fully booked for months, so all the signs are good for an outstanding weekend.
'Pwllheli is a fantastic location for close-to-shore racing and the sheltered bay is perfect for extremely fast competition. The support from the local people and the sailing club was fantastic last year and we’re hoping for the same enthusiasm again to make sure that this weekend is a resounding success.'
