 St Moritz, Porto Cervo - sailing news from Europe and the World
Welcome to our latest edition of Sail-World.com's European newsletter.
The St Moritz Match Race, the sixth stage of the World Match Racing Tour, is underway with Great Britain's Ian Williams, Team GAC Pindar, continuing his winning form. However joint leader after the opening qualifying session, Sweden's Johnie Berntsson (SWE) Berntsson Sailing Team, is hot on the heels of Williams and his crew. Italy's Francesco Bruni (ITA) Bruni Racing leads the Tour after five stages.

The ISAF Team Racing World Championship has commenced in Ireland. Twenty teams from around the world are battling it out in the Youth and Open Championship. On day 1, the Spanish team showed their strength, in the Youth section of the event.
The Alpen Cup is nearing its conclusion. After three Acts, the Swiss boat Superbusi, helmed by Mathias Bermejo with David Erismann as tactician won the event and leads going into the final Act in Bellano, on Lake Como.
Elsewhere on the sailing scene the Perini Navi Cup, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, is taking place in Porto Cervo ahead of the Maxi Rolex Cup. The Clipper Round the World fleet have started arriving in Rio De Janeiro from Madeira, Spain on the second race in leg one, and Telefonica has qualified for the Volvo Ocean Race.

Volvo Ocean Race: Telefonica returns to base after 2000nm Qualifier

The Spanish Volvo Ocean race entry, Telefonica, is back at the pontoon of her training base at Sanxenxo, in Pontevedra, Spain. At 17:30 local time the Spanish boat skippered by Iker Martínez, with the entire crew on board, completed the almost one thousand mile climb up the Atlantic from the team's offshore base at Marina Rubicón, in Lanzarote, to the one in Sanxenxo, Northern Spain.
