The deadline for Yachting Excellence Awards nominations is fast approaching with nominations due to Yachting New Zealand on or before September 1st 2010. Late nominations may be accepted for performances which take place after the nomination deadline and before the Awards ceremony in November. Affiliated Yacht Club's can make nominations in the following categories… Performance Awards Recognising outstanding sailing performance and/or exceptional achievement over the past year the Performance Award was previously known as the Merit Award. International sailing achievement, seamanship, sportsmanship, boat design or boat building will be recognised. Only ten Performance Awards will be given each year. Service Awards The Service Award was formerly known as the Honour Award and recognises exemplary or selfless service to the sport of yachting which might have been given over many years. Only ten Service Awards will be given each year. Coach/Official of the Year This Award is new to the programme in 2010 and is designed to recognise New Zealand's coaches and race officials, be they professional or amateur. A list of finalist nominees may be announced in advance and a winner named at the presentation ceremony. Young Sailor of the Year Under the age of 21 on December 31 in the year of the Award, the Young Sailor of the Year was first introduced in 1996. Outstanding competitive sailing performance is the purpose of the Award. A list of finalist nominees may be announced in advance and a winner named at the presentation ceremony. President's Award The President's Award recognises work done by a yacht club, individual or organisation to promote, support or develop the sport of yachting. A list of finalist nominees may be announced in advance and a winner named at the presentation ceremony. Yachting New Zealand Cruising Award Cruising Award The Cruising Award recognises an outstanding non-competitive voyage or cruise, under power or sail, or outstanding services to cruising. A list of finalist nominees may be announced in advance and a winner named at the presentation ceremony. For the official nomination form and more information see www.yachtingnz.org.nz
