New 2G Racing Blocks From Lewmar
|
Lewmar's Racing block is back on the dock this summer in its new second generation (2G) format. Based on the company's award winning, lightweight-racing range of machined aluminium blocks, Lewmar's updated 2G series is massively stronger than its predecessor. From standard single blocks to halyard and footblocks, the 2G range, size on size, is between 30 to 50 % stronger. By way of an example Lewmar's single 60mm high load Racing block used to have a safe working load (SWL) of 800 kg and now in its 2G format offers a SWL of 1200kg - representing a 50% increase. Weight has been reduced from 162g to 158g. Explains Matthew Townsend, Lewmar's hardware product manager; 'Since we developed our Racing Hardware range, technology and material analysis has advanced immensely. Over the last 12 months our designers have carried out FEA (Finite Element Analysis) on the full range of Racing blocks to identify exactly where loads are greatest, where most material needs to be located and where we could take out weight. The result is the new 2G range.' Continues Townsend, 'Size for size these blocks offer a massive increase in safe working load (SWL) for our customers at only a small premium in price. Designers and sailors now have the choice to reduce the size of blocks on their systems or allow for a greater margin of SWL.' Lewmar's new 2G blocks also feature a new shackle post design for the runner blocks as well as a new format for the construction of Racing footblocks.
