Two additional TetraMedia staff brightened up the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show this year, in the form of Rosalie Taylor and Sarah Ruggiero, Bond University students and interns for the duration of the event, and based on their quality work, for Sydney International Boat Show in August.

Rosie and Sarah were based in the MarineBusiness-World.com pavilion, getting around the show to interview visiting international delegates, a wide range of exhibitors of note including TetraMedia’s own advertisers and event organisers and over the four days of SCIBS.

New to the boating industry and the rigours of boat shows, both of them carried out eight to 10 on-camera interviews, as well as contributing stories and reports on daily events and exhibitor products.

Showing no signs of fatigue, even as editing carried on late into the night, they expressed their elation at getting hands on experience, and a great interest in the marine industry.

'Working with TetraMedia during the 2012 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show was one of best ‘real world’ learning experiences I’ve ever had,' says Sarah, originally from the US where she gained her first degree, now working on her Masters at Bond.

'In addition to publishing individual stories and being responsible for every multimedia component, interns get to work with some of the best journalists in the industry. The work placed us in a realistic setting with real life expectations and consequences. After an intensive five days, I can honestly say I am a better writer, editor and all around journalist. I have industry experience and I am confident in my abilities to perform under pressure.'

Rosie, a final year Journalism student, did her research carefully, prior to the boat show

She found exhibitors clear in their communications and she was soon capturing exhibitors’ objectives and they were only too eager to illuminate her on their products.

'Looking back on the experience, I shouldn't have been worried at all. Reporting on the show gave me a feel for the passion behind every person's story, and I met some very interesting people. The internship was well worth the time, stress and effort (and lack of sleep!) that went into it, because I came out of it with a refreshed look at the world of journalism, and feeling accomplished having contributed a range of stories which are running internationally.'

Erwin Bamps, COO of Gulf Craft, who was visiting the Gold Coast as a guest speaker at this year’s ASMEX conference was also a visitor to SCIBS, where Rosie filmed an interview with him about the brand values and its global ambitions.

Within hours of the piece going live on Marinebusiness-world.com, Mr Bamps sent an email congratulating the team on its precision work – great interview, good technique and excellent editing. He was most enthusiastic about the rapid reportage, posted the day after the interview.

TetraMedia Publisher, Rob Kothe said: 'The days are long gone when online publications were text and still image only. Multimedia content is essential and today’s young media graduates have the mix of skills needed to help deliver that content.

'You only have to look at the rapidly growing use of tablets and smart phones to view video on line to realise that boat shows, events, product launches, features need audio and video component.

'We reinforce our own multimedia team to ensure we can deliver video content at busy trade-shows for just this reason. Any company launching a new product needs to have a short video as part of the launch package, hosted on one of the many low cost business video servers or on YouTube.'

Sarah and Rosie will be part of the TetraMedia team at the Sydney International Boat Show in August, keen to further hone their skills and expertise in broadcast journalism and communication.
