At Maritimo's R& D facility on the Gold Coast, a plug is rapidly taking shape, a plug that will be utilised to produce the mould that will build the largest vessel over to carry the Barry-Cotter ‘fingerprint’, the massive 50-tonne-plus Maritimo 73 Sky Lounge.

From the street, 75 Waterway Drive, Coomera, looks like any one of a number of modern, planned industrial developments that dot the Gold Coast.
It comprises 42 factory units of varying sizes, some sold, some retained and leased.
The Waterway Drive complex, situated between the Mercury Marine and Telwater facilities, was part of the on-going expansion of the Gold Coast Marine Precinct by Bill Barry-Cotter.
At the far rear of the complex, one of the largest units, no name on its façade, is home to the very high-tech Research and Development wing of Maritimo.
Here, six new models are currently being planned and refined in preparation for their inclusion in the Maritimo model line.

Making my way through this plug was made easy thanks to my ‘tour guide’, Bill Barry-Cotter himself, who was able to deal out a running commentary as we negotiated our way between bulkheads and craftsmen.
'This will have the competition ducking for cover for four primary reasons,' Bill explained, 'it will be larger in volume, be more fuel efficient, offer superior performance and a lower retail price structure.'
Make no mistake, this is one very large vessel; although marketed as the Maritimo 73 Sky Lounge, this massive masterpiece actually stretches the tape out to 24.38-metres (80’) when bowsprit and aft platform are included.
Bill had a glint in his eye when he pointed out that the dual Muir windlasses, together with their anchors and chain, would weigh in at more than one tonne.
This magnificent creation will feature a meticulously planned, full height engine room where in standard form, two C32 1500hp Caterpillar marine diesels will power this massive ‘Queen of the Sea’ to an astonishing 36-knots.

It goes without saying that an interior to equal anything afloat will impress all who manage to board this fabulous flagship when she’s ready to stun the market.
Vast saloon, superbly equipped galley, expansive flying bridge with access via the internal staircase, four staterooms, three bathrooms, every nook and cranny oozing luxury and comfort.
The master stateroom truly deserves special mention; never mind the standard en-suite, how about an en-suite with his and hers showers?
Some other specifications of interest; she will carry 10,900-litres of fuel and 1720-litres of fresh water.
Her length overall, not including bowsprit and aft platform, is 22.25-metres while her beam, at 6.6-metres, exceeds the length overall of most substantial trailer boats.
The Maritimo 73 Sky Lounge is scheduled for its world release at the 2009 Sydney International Boat Show (July 30-August 4).
