Lancer's Airodock on show at Lake Pupuke

'Wetas tied up toe the Lancer Airodock'    Lancer Industries
Lancer Industries and Weta Marine joined up for a demo day at the weekend. Despite forecasts of 40 knots of wind, it was decided to go ahead. If you are trying to prove a product, then putting it to the test is the way to go.

Lake Pupuke is the perfect venue. With the dock set up in the lee of Sylvan park, the two Weta’s took turns taking people for a blast around the lake. With only the windsurfers out to challenge, there was plenty of room for manoeuvre.

The Weta handled the conditions so well, it didn’t take long to be back at the dock rigging the screecher. As the day brightened up it was clear that the early optimism had paid off. There was nothing but smiles from folk coming back off the water.

It is a great way to demonstrate both products. Lancer’s Airodock provided a stable platform on the lake. Set up in just a few minutes it provides the perfect staging post. The inflatable hypalon construction means it protects the boats and provides safe access to the water.

Initially, the AiroDock was primarily designed as a temporary wharf or jetty, useful at a holiday house or any temporary aquatic event. Because of its popularity and ease of use, it has also been adapted to be used as a floatplane walkway, waterskiing station or as a pontoon behind super yachts.

Weta’s trimarans were unstoppable. With the spray being whipped off the wavetops by the wind, the young and the 'young at heart' took their turn to put it to the test. Not the traditional conditions for first timers on the water, but then this is not a traditional boat!

AiroDock has a low impact on the environment. Traditional wharfs often leach pollutants into waterways from both wood and metals which affect marine life, shorelines and birdlife. The AiroDock is made from non-corrosive materials which do not break down or become unstable over time. Also, because the AiroDock is not a permanent feature in any marine landscape it does not impact on the visual landscape as much as wharfs or other marine walkways. It has a low profile and floats and rises with the tide, more in keeping with a marine environment.

To top it off, Lake Pupuke Boating club very generous contributed their BBQ. What more could you ask for from an Auckland weekend!
