ISAF World Match Racing Tour - YANMAR Racing set for Danish Open 2010
|
The 2010 Danish Open, the seventh event on the 2010 ISAF World Match Racing Tour, is being staged in Bornholm, Denmark from September 8th-12th. For this event Peter Gilmour, the Australian skipper of the YANMAR Racing team, a veteran of five America’s Cups and four times winner of the World Match Racing title, has assembled a multinational team all of whom have sailed with him many times before. The YANMAR Racing team will be Cameron Dunn, mainsheet – tactician (New Zealand), Trimmer Thierry Douillard (France), Pitman Yasuhiro Yaji (Japan) and bowman Martin Berntsson (Sweden). Before heading out on water for the first practice session of the Bornholm series Peter Gilmour said ‘YANMAR Racing is looking forward to a great event. This is going to be a hard event to win with history strongly on the side of the Danish Match Racers, and with Mathieu Richard in very strong form this year heading up an impressive field. ‘You only have to look at the leader board. Six of the top seven teams in the 2010 ISAF World Match Racing Tour Championship are on the entry list. ‘Previously the Danish Open has been sailed in the city of Aarhus. This new venue removes the previous knowledge that YANMAR Racing and the other international teams had gained in prior events in Aarhus. ‘On the positive side, YANMAR Racing was third in last year’s event in Denmark. ‘We had a very tight battle in the semi finals with the three times event winner Denmark’s Jes Gram Hansen. ‘YANMAR Racing is ready for the Danish Match Cup and is focused on improving on our last outing when we sailed these boats in Sweden and did not reach the quarter final stage. ‘Congratulations to Mathieu Richard and team for their recent win in St. Moritz, boy they have streaked ahead in the World Match Racing Tour standings! ‘ YANMAR Racing Pitman Yasuhiro Yaji commented ‘We are looking forward to today’s practice session. Yesterday we all flew in from different places around the world. It feels very cold to me. In Tokyo on Monday it was 37 degrees. In contrast here now it is only 15 degrees. Last night it was very windy and now there is still a lot of wind probably 18-20 knots. We will enjoy these conditions and would love them to hold into the weekend.’ Danish Open Field Tour Card Holders Mathieu Richard (FRA) French Match Racing Team Adam Minoprio (NZL) ETNZ/BlackMatch Racing Team Ben Ainslie (GBR) TeamOrigin Peter Gilmour (AUS) YANMAR Racing Bertrand Pacé (FRA) Aleph Sailing Team Torvar Mirsky (AUS) Mirsky Racing Team Francesco Bruni (ITA) Azzurra Björn Hansen (SWE) Hansen Global Team The Wildcard entries Mads Ebler (DEN) Ebler Match Racing Team William Tiller (NZL) Full Metal Jacket Racing Team Susanne Ward (DEN) Team Ward Michael Buckley (USA) MB Sailing.
