Gold Coast Water Police cancel Round 5 of F1
'Australian F1'    Australian F1 Superboat Series - f1boat.com.au
Due to on-going issues with Gold Coast Water Police regarding their spectator safety concerns we regret that due to a limited time frame and a longer than expected solution to these concerns, it is in the future best interests of the Series and those concerned to cancel the August round and work towards a positive result for the Grand Final in November.

Initial meetings, held back in April of this year have met with set backs, subsequently due to previous water incidents - being a Thundercat incident involving two competitors (which has been addressed and this class no longer competes with the Series) and event incidents, not related to our events, on the Broadwater and the Spit.

Water Police have since toughened up their safety regulations regarding all water sport and event activities with both parties not been able to reach a solution within the designated time frame of staging the event.

The Australian F1 Superboat Series Management have, over the course of this extended period, tried to work through Water Police issues and concerns, together with Marine Safety Queensland, by addressing each relevant point.

'Given we have been classed as a “mini-Indy” event it has been expected that our infrastructure also reflects that standard.  This also calls for a similar budget to be in place, which is not reflective of the size of the event.

Managing Director of the Series, Kirk Tsaccounis comments:
'I am amazed we have been staging events for some ten years and in this time we have dealt and formed relationships with many Government Departments and Organisations in different States, all being very proactive and co operative in bringing our events to their region.

The event on the Gold Coast has been an annual inclusion on the Gold Coast Events Calendar, being now in it’s 4th year in the region, with major support from Gold Coast City Council, Gold Coast Tourism and many Organisations.  It is unfortunate that one entity can be so uncooperative and detrimental to the event and the Gold Coast region in general.  We hope this improves for future events”.
