A fire broke out on Saturday morning in the boatshed building of Empire Marina, Bobbin Head in Sydney’s north. No one was hurt and emergency services responded quickly such that the fire was contained to the eastern end of the boatshed. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
The hardstand shed and shipwright tenancies have been damaged. The remainder of the building including the restaurant were unaffected.
No boats on the marina were affected by the fire.
Darren Vaux, Director of the marina, said 'The quick action of staff and marina clients ensured that people were evacuated away from the affected area and the emergency services alerted to the problem.
'Full credit must go to the NSW Fire Brigade, the NSW Rural Fire Service and the National Parks Officers who responded to quickly contain and extinguish the fire.
'The marina’s emergency response system certainly passed the test. The affected area is being secured this evening and the marina will be re-opened to the public on Sunday morning,' said Vaux.
Empire Marina Bobbin Head is a 220 berth marina in the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, north of Sydney. It is also current Marina of the Year.
