Feedback on changes to Broome waters sought

'Broome waters. http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/imarine'
The Department for Planning and Infrastructure and the Port of Broome have outlined proposals to relocate areas set aside for water skiing and other aquatic activities off Broome.
The Port of Broome is increasingly busy and its waters currently include large areas for water skiing, the use of personal watercraft (PWC), commonly known as jet skis, and parasailing.

The proposed changes define appropriate areas of water off Broome that can safely accommodate these activities.

The proposed changes follow a review of current activities within port waters which extend from Roebuck Bay around the Broome Peninsula to Cable Beach and had involved consultation with user groups.

The proposals include:

*a boating prohibited area at Cable Beach to ensure the safety of swimmers as the popularity of boating continued to increase in the region;
a reduced area for waterskiing, PWC use and parasailing in Roebuck Bay; and,
eight knot speed restriction areas at Broome Jetty and at Gantheaume Point to improve safety and reduce wash.

*At Dampier Creek there will continue to be provision for the activities of the Broome Water Ski Club.

People wanting more information about the proposed changes can contact the Department’s Kimberley Regional Office on 9192 0203.

Comments can be sent to peter.westgate(at)dpi.wa.gov.au or mailed to Kimberley Regional Office, Department for Planning and Infrastructure, PO Box 1993
