Sail-World.com : Editorial, June 11, 2010
Our tentacles reach far and wide, across the world, in fact, and another week of interesting reading. Round two of the Offshore Superboat Championships is fast approaching and all the crews involved are looking forward to testing their mettle against two of the best in Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani and the legendary Englishman Steve Curtis, MBE, with an amazing eight world Class 1 titles to his credit. We also reveal that the outstanding Japanese diesel engine manufacturer, Yanmar, is set to unveil a brand new engine aimed at the recreational boater when the 2010 Sydney International Boat Show (July 29-August 2) open the doors at Darling Harbour. In addition to that, we catch up with a current Yanmar owner who could not be happier that he re-powered his Sunseeker with the company's proven engines. Good news from the NSW Government, too, with Premier Kristine Keneally announcing $25.9 million in funds to upgrade Sydney Harbour and other state waterways. Talk about appropriate names – the NSW Government is also warning boaters about the effect of hypothermia when out on the waterways during winter – the warning has been named Operation Cold Water! Elsewhere, the dreadful oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has made headlines worldwide. Take a look at the damage caused through the eyes of top US angler Bill Nicholas. Finally, don't be backwards in coming forward – you're still in with a chance to win a 12 month subscription to the fantastic PredictWind Professional – it's worth $1000.00. Read on, friends, and don't overlook the chance of dropping by regularly as we gather and disseminate all the good powerboat news from around this wonderful world or ours.
