Boat Shows in Focus: SIBS among the world's best

On the eve of SIBS, the focus is on boat shows and their ROI.

Mary-Anne Edwards, Chief Executive of AIMEX, carries the flag for Australian companies all around the globe, promoting their brands and raising awareness of our local marine industry.

Mary-Anne believes that SIBs, like SCIBS compares to any international show AIMEX attends.

'It is seen by the industry as an essential show in their boat show calendar, it is very professionally organized and the visitor numbers are impressive.'

But while it attracts the crowds, many of their number from abroad, one thing that may be lacking is international exposure. 'I think SIBS deserves far more international promotion to attract more international buyers to the show.

'I think the show is among the best and therefore, we should let the world know it. Plus, I do not think we can underestimate the number of overseas people who want an excuse to visit Sydney and all its wonderful attractions.'

Mary-Anne’s advice for exporters is to take advantage of the channels already open and tried and tested by AIMEX.

'It is really important for new exporters to do their homework. That is where belonging to an organization like AIMEX is invaluable. Don’t make your own mistakes learn from the mistakes of others.

'AIMEX can provide market reports, key overseas contacts, support at international boat shows, profile to gain credibility and get your brand exposed on the global market and great advice.'

She says the 'growth areas for export, depend on the product or service being offered, like any sector'.

'It is important to understand the various global markets and the ones where your technology, pricing, expertise etc makes you competitive.'

The shows detailed in the extract of the AIMEX Boat Show Report to follow are those AIMEX has identified opportunities for Australian Marine Exporters.

IBEX Miami 6-8 October 2008
The Australian Pavilion exhibitor space at IBEX is sold out, however we have two rooms available in the hotel we have booked if any member is interested in visiting this show with us to have a look at the market.

Launched in 1992 by Professional BoatBuilder magazine, IBEX is the only trade show in the world dedicated exclusively to the education and purchasing needs of professional boat builders, designers, repairers, surveyors, and boatyard and marina managers.

Each year thousands of marine professionals attend to see and source the very latest products and technologies that will enable them build, repair, or restore a boat, better, faster, and for less cost. IBEX is the only annual professional boatbuilding event to bring together the industry in such unparalleled numbers.

'We’ve found IBEX to be one of the most important shows for the US market, you simply can’t afford not to be there.'
Coursemaster/Hydrive’s managing director, Richard Chapman
