Anglers will be sharpening hooks, checking lines in readiness for the National Bream
Series Grand Final scheduled for the Meridien Marinas Horizon Shores on the Queensland Gold Coast over the weekend of October 31/November 2.

With a Ford Ranger single cab pick up valued at $23,000 as the major prize it’s a safe bet that tackle will be carefully checked and honed.

The event will be contested on waterways throughout South East Queensland, from the canals off the Nerang River on the Gold Coast through to the expanse of Moreton Bay.

It gives anglers the largest arena on the bream tour and should offer competitors every chance to fill their five-fish bag.

The tournament location is certainly worthy of Australia’s top bream anglers.

Meridien Marinas Horizon Shores is a true five-star development offering spacious berths, various dining options and first class boat ramp and launching facilities.

The competition to date has been filmed for the Australian Fishing Championship (AFC), which is televised through the Channel 10 and Southern Cross networks.

Format for the Grand Final will feature two competitors, a boater and a non-boater who have qualified through to the Grand Final from competition throughout the year.

They will be paired together randomly and will fish for a combined shared weight total.

Both will fish two sessions from 0700 to 1400 each day, presenting their five largest bream to the weighmaster after each session.

Sunday will see the top four boaters take part in a ‘shoot out’ to determine who will be crowned 2008 Ford Ranger Bream Grand Final winner.

To ensure all the action is recorded, a cameraman will accompany each of the anglers on their final session.

The tournament is a catch and release affair; only artificial lures or flies may be used and competitors must keep their fish alive in their purpose built live wells.

At the end of each session, the fish are weighed, displayed and then released back into the water.

To add interest for spectators, sponsors tents will keep the entertainment going with displays of the latest boating accessories and fishing tackle.

Dedicated angler or enthusiastic amateur, Meridien Marinas Horizon Shores sounds like the place to be over the October 31/November 2 weekend.
